Carl Rothbart, Assoc AIA, Principal

Knowing what to save and what to replace in restoring a building and how to achieve the balance between the two while preserving the building fabric has been both my goal and, I believe, my accomplishment as a preservationist.

Carl Rothbart has over 30 years’ experience in the preservation field. His expertise is in historic preservation, exterior restoration and waterproofing, and in the supervision and management of large-scale restoration projects, from proposal writing through substantial completion.

Mr. Rothbart is responsible for all aspects of building preservation/restoration and envelope repairs,   including building inspections; probe supervision; preparation of façade, roof and interior assessments and preservation master plans; Local Law 11/98 Critical Examination Reports; design of repair procedures; specifications writing ; cost estimating; bid analysis and negotiations; and construction administration and supervision of interventions on historically significant and contemporary structures.

He has worked with various State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPOs) on many projects listed on the National Register of Historic Places, as well as with the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission on numerous individually landmarked structures. He is known for his calm demeanor, thoroughness, efficiency and responsiveness.
