For the last thirty-one years, Douglas Emilio has led complex adaptive reuse and exterior envelope projects for public and private clients. Public clients have included multiple local municipalities and county governments, the Metropolitan Transit Authority, the NYC Department of Design & Construction, the State University Construction Fund, the US General Services Administration, the US Department of State, the US Army Corp of Engineers, NYC Economic Development Corporation, and the Embassy of France.

He is adept at master plan development and large-scale condition assessments, as well as fine-grained preservation and conservation projects. His organizational skills allow him to manage multiple projects and teams simultaneously. He has integrated new technology into the firm's practice, allowing for more accurate fieldwork and better collaboration with clients.

Projects that he has been directly responsible for have won awards from the New York State and Westchester + Hudson Valley Chapters of the American Institute of Architects, the Brick Industry Association and have been recognized by McGraw Hill Construction.

He is a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Association of Preservation Technology, the International Council on Monuments and Sites, and the International Institute of Building Enclosure Consultants. He serves as chairperson of the Hastings-on-Hudson Architectural Review Board and is on an advisory board for the Friends of the Old Croton Aqueduct (FOCA) State Historic Park.
